Em-‘Bodied’ Spirits: Embracing our Physical Selves. How often are we aware of our bodies – especially of their complexity and beauty? Perhaps it is only when things go wrong that we pay attention to our physical selves. A dualistic spirituality has not helped us much, leading us to look on our bodies with suspicion and urging us to leave them behind to focus on "spirit." Yet we are not dis-embodied spirits: we are incarnate, enfleshed human beings, gifted with amazing physical bodies, which Scripture calls "temples of the Holy Spirit." It is through and with our bodies that we experience ourselves, the world and our God. During this Slow Down Day we will reflect on the fact that we are "fearfully and wonderfully made" as we explore with gratitude the gift of our bodies.
