LURED INTO THE DESERT
The Healing Power of Contemplative Prayer and Fasting
Two statements capture the essence of this transformative retreat: “We may not be able to fix some things, but it is important to name them properly” (Rohr) and “This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer” (Mk 9:29). This retreat experience of a “poustinia,” the Russian word for “desert,” centered on the practice of Lectio Divina, will allow participants sacred time to name their need for healing, and to experience it through prayer and fasting. A desert is where distractions are taken away and deeper issues can emerge. You are invited into the desert, to join Lucie Leduc and Bishop Sylvain OMI in a unique 24-hour poustinia healing experience, beginning Friday evening and ending with supper on Saturday.
Friday 6:30 pm to Saturday 6:30 pm
Archbishop Emeritus Sylvain Lavoie, OMI is Chaplain, Spiritual Director, and Presenter for the Star. As a missionary Oblate he has spent over 30 years ministering among the aboriginal peoples of north and central Saskatchewan. He is author of a number of books including Drumming From Within, a book on stories of faith and hope in the Canadian north. His latest book, Claiming God’s Love was released in the fall of 2023.
Lucie Leduc ministers as a retreat facilitator, spiritual director, and writer, along with her role as Executive Director for The Star of the North Retreat House. Her Christian formation has come through formative family and religious relations, as well as studies at Oblate School of Theology with an M.A. in Spirituality. Much of her faith and spirit are shaped as an Oblate Associate journeying in the family of St. Eugene de Mazenod.
