We humans have been created with a penchant for peace, peace that seems illusive in our experiences of broken relationships, divisive ideologies, disease, fears and failures, and dysfunctional institutions. Often, we try to meet the restlessness in a number of ways – through pursuing pleasure, working hard, accumulating wealth, investing in families and friendships – but none of those things quite satisfy our nagging longing. On the first Christmas night angels proclaimed to startled shepherds that the Messiah had been born, and that there was now peace on earth for all people. The child born in Bethlehem is the Prince of Peace, who brings us into the dwelling place of God, finally satisfying our deep quest for shalom. Christmas means God and his peace is with us, here and now, and we each see and experience him in personal ways.
How do you see God? We answer this question partly by walking with others who share their experiences of seeing and knowing God. Rembrandt van Rijn was gifted at visualizing the appearance of God among us. Join us for an evening of reflection and enjoyment, as the master artist shares with us on the journey towards the peace Jesus came to bring.
